Hillary Came Out Swinging! [Updated!!!]

Senator Clinton, knock 'em dead!  There's nobody I can think of in the Democratic Party who's better equipped to lay the smackdown on the Republicans.  What they've done to this country is incredible damaging, painful, and tragic.  What they've done to you and to your husband, however, should go down in the annals of American history as one of the most disgusting series of acts ever witnessed.

It's our turn at the wheel.  The pendulum has swung back our way.  These yellow dogs have got their day.

Please make sure the Republicans know this by the end of your speech.  We're slightly ahead with one hand tied behind our back.  Can those idiots survive the onslaught of a united Democratic Party?

Senator Clinton, I have faith in you.  I did not want you to be our nominee, but I never questioned your anger, your rage, and yes your sadness at what President Bush, Bill Frist, and Tom Delay have done to our country.  I trust in you to deliver the message that our time has come again, and that they are on the way out.

Be righteous!  Fight for us!  The war isn't over.  This war is never over.  We need you at the vanguard.  Blaze the trail, mark the way!  Draw a contrast so stark that anyone who believes, as you believe, that government exists to help the least of these, those that go unseen, invisible to the lucky ones.  That charge is still yours to keep.  The work is never done, and you are perfectly positioned to do it!

The media is fixated on drama and division.  All they can talk about is how we are disunited.  Use this opportunity!  They have handed you the loudest megaphone in the world, for the moment.  Use it!  Make it simple!  Either we are for healthcare for everyone or we are not.  Either we are for ending the war in Iraq or we are not.  Either we are for turning our schools into palaces, or we are not!

Senator Clinton, I am no one.  I am a mayfly.  I matter not at all.  I am but a pebble that hopes to be caught up in a landslide.  Please, give us the shout that brings the whole thing down on their heads!  Be our harbinger.

[Update]

Thank you Senator Clinton. That was an incredible speech. I couldn't have asked for better. Anyone who heard that knows exactly where you stand. You've drawn a line in the sand. Those who vote John McCain certainly do not support you. I'm impressed, I'm grateful, and I'm proud to be a Democrat. Flawless!

Re: Tips? (2.00 / 4)

Hillary Clinton not being on the ticket in no way reflects on her greatness. Obama simply did not believe she was a good fit for his Presidency. That is his prerogative. In all probability, had she been the Presidential nominee, she would have made the same determination about Obama.

Re: Tips? (none / 0)

He would have been a better choice as VP for her than her for him.  Her status is secured no matter what... she will be the front runner in 2016 or 2012 regardless if she was VP or Not.  The only people on the bench who can compete are Al Gore, Mark Warner and Brian Schweitzer and Schweitzer may be a long shot at that.

Re: Tips? (none / 0)

She's better off not being on the ticket.   If Obama loses, she will take part of the blame and that will hurt her chances in 2012.   If Obama wins, her future as the nominee AND as President are dependent on his performance.  If he does well, then whether she is his VP or NOT, he will be a valuable asset in the General.   If he does badly, she is screwed as she will be tied in with his presidency.  So its a gamble for her on the ticket.

On the other hand, Biden will be 74 in 2016... too old to run most likely.  Hillary working her ass off for Obama means he owes her a big time favor.   Her taking a high profile Senate role or NY Governorship would put her image and destiny in her own hands instead of tied to Obama's as it would be if she was VP.  Her NOT being VP and works hard for Obama means she is primed for the nom in 2012 or 2016 and can't be hurt by Obama if things are bad and will not be blamed by Obama's supporters should the unthinkable happen... while benefitting from a stellar Obama presidency.  An older person like Biden was the best choice for a future Hillary run.

i was commenting to the apparent expectation that HRC should defend Obama against winger smears --- which she does. i was suggesting that in demanding this of her, it'd be nice to start having the Obama camp step up and defend her some as well --- since even though she's not the nominee the wingers are STILL laying into her with personal attacks.  http://gothamacme.com/2008/08/25/enough/

just one example.

Re: Come Out Swinging, Hillary! (none / 0)

What McCain has done is not really slander because she did say those things. However, she made those remarks during the fierce heat of a primary battle. That context no longer exists and we all know it, I hope. If Democrats wanted, they could create several dozen ads featuring sound bites from McCain's primary competitors. However, it's not normally considered the honorable thing to do, but Republicans aren't always known for doing the honorable thing.

Re: Come Out Swinging, Hillary! (none / 0)

I believe she will give a terrific speech, but not sure if it will be enough to swing her voters?

To be truthful, I think the most important "UNITY" speech will be the Big Dog.

If it looks like he is on board, then I think we can maybe take a easy breath.

I think the conventional wisdom is, Senator Clinton is already on board.

The media (in it's infinite wisdom..snark) has decided, right or wrong, that Bill is the hold-out.

So much is this is how the media views it, even if they are right or 100% wrong, as they usually are.

No one can cut the Republicans to ribbons with that slow subtle knife like Bill.

Remember "He's not too old, it's his ideas that are too old..."

Bob Dole was done immediately after that line.

So, I'm hoping that the One-two punch from the Clinton's can do it.

Re: Come Out Swinging, Hillary! (none / 0)

she doesn't feel you rage, rage isn't here thang. She's a solutions oriented representative, and of course she'll come out forcefully. She knows the stakes and they are far beyond any one person's personal ambition.  Too bad you were never for her, but there is still time, she'll be working on our issues and she needs a dem prez to not veto her solutions based legislation.

I do not have to have supported her for President to respect her or the work that she does.  If I had to have supported her for President I would have had to have supported dozens of good Democrats, and even one or two Republicans (yes, I actually like about that many).

She didn't have to be my first (or second) choice then for me to think she's a great asset to the party, and to America.

Wow Reaper

You are getting to be Hillary friendly.

I like =)

If the bulk of Obama supporters voices were as Hillary friendly in the primary I don't think there would have been a backlash.

Most of us started out liking Obama the individual.  Whatever else is true about Team Obama he has tried to run a more upbeat and non-negative frontal assault then typical.  To the extent that he actually believes what he says about being more positive and upbeat I count it to his credit.

Re: Come Out Swinging, Hillary! (none / 0)

she was harder on McCain starting in the primary, the last half she stopped speaking at all about Barack and only talked of issues and the mess the pugs have made of things.  If you read that expose about her campaign published by the Atlantic Monthly you'll see that she was always careful of how she ran against him, she stuck only to issues.  She hit him on his two areas of weakness, his short time in office and his reluctance to talk bread and butter issues, favoring high rhetoric over the small important to daily lives stuff.  And neither is a hit, since they were true and a lot of people saw both as positives.  Now he does talk about those issues, somewhat.  The last two bad things she said about him, were mocking his hope message and that was like one minute once, and calling him out for misrepresenting her NAFTA quotes, that's when she said shame on him. Both were before Texas. After Texas was completed she didn't mention him by name and she didn't refer to him specifically.  You can now see how the press spins her into something she isn't, now that you're watching her for yourself.  She's great and she'll do her best to help him get elected.

Re: Come Out Swinging, Hillary! (none / 0)

I won't argue with you, but that comment she made about McCain's experience which is not the subject of an ad - certainly you realized that would come back to haunt her and us.  It was reckless, as were some of the other comments.

She also brought up Rezko and Ayers in that bizarre ABC debate, but I actually think that helped "vet" these issues.

Re: Come Out Swinging, Hillary! (none / 0)

which was the point and why he owes more to NQ than most suspect. That stuff had to be said and made 'normal' and 'old news.'  She was making a much bigger point about McCain and had the press and most of you seen it that way, it would have had the opposite effect.  She said he had experience, but that his ideas are all wrong, and so she took something away from 'experience' and sent to the side of not-much-experience and the right ideas.  Since the experience thing is true, best to acknowledge that and neutralize it, along with John's 'vast' experience.  She's always wanted him to win were he the nominee, she was careful from the beginning, before he'd broken away from the pack, before Iowa she made it clear that no one was to bring up race as an issue, and that no one was to bring up anything that could possibly hurt him were he the GE candidate.

So, now's the fun part, we're all on the same page.  Not all of us think he's a great man, but we want him to win.
